Waste Management buys Saratoga County landfill
Saratoga County constructed the landfill in 2001 but never used it. Finch purchased the landfill from the county in 2013. The report says Finch did not provide a reason for selling the landfill.
“The partnership we launched with Saratoga County in 2014 has worked,” a statement by John Brodt, Finch spokesman, says in the report. “It has provided a community with a safe, financially sound means of disposal of nonrecyclable waste and strengthened Finch Paper as we continue to serve as a trusted employer and vital part of our region’s economy. We look forward to working with the county and our community to bring about a smooth transition in the months ahead.”
The statement also says Finch has a long-term agreement with the company for its own waste disposal.
Revenue from a profit-sharing agreement related to the sale of the landfill to Finch Paper allowed the town of Northumberland, New York, to build a new town hall, the report says.
